Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE:CHK) went up 1.21% to $23.34. Last week, the company said that its third-quarter net income jumped to $515 million or 75 cents a share, from $186 million, or 30 cents, earned in the year-ago period. Adjusted net income totaled 70 cents a share in the latest period. Quarterly revenue increased to $2.58 billion, from $1.81 billion.

The company beat consensus targets of 64 cents a share and $2.1 billion, respectively, in a FactSet survey.

Suncor Energy Inc. (USA) (NYSE:SU) jumped 1.49% to $36.16. Last week, the company said its quarterly earnings jumped to C$1.02 billion (US$1.01 billion), or 65 Canadian cents a share, from C$929 million, or 69 Canadian cents a share, in the same quarter last year. Suncor’s operating earnings were 42 Canadian cents a share.

Analysts polled by FactSet Research expected the company’s operating earnings to be 39 cents a share. Suncor also got a boost from advancing crude oil futures, which rose 1.9% to trade at $86.33 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

The stock opened at $35.76 and traded within the range of $35.10-$36.25. The stock went up more than 2% year-to-date.

Transocean LTD (NYSE:RIG) added 1.86% to $69.08. Earlier in the month, the company said late Wednesday that third-quarter net income fell to $368 million or $1.15 a share, from $710 million, or $2.19 a share, from the year-ago period. Results for the latest quarter were hit by charges of 46 cents a share.

Revenue declined to $2.31 billion from $2.82 billion a year ago. Analysts surveyed by FactSet Research estimated earnings of $1.39 a share on revenue of $2.45 billion.

The stock went down more than 16% year-to-date.
